Double Page Spread Draft #42

Hello!

Here is my double-page spread draft. I was not too sure how to do it. That was until I discovered a layout I could do. I think having the photo on the side and then the feature story on the right would be a good way to do it.

Magazine Cover Draft #40

 Lovely to see you again!

In order to finish up the magazine, I made a fake cover using images from Canva and a cover draft using the images I took myself. I hoped to determine what might form a perfect look for the publication. My magazine gets ideas out of vogue, so it is simple on the eyes but also has words upon the page. This would help me see the things I need to change. It would be on the last cover.

I won't lie, this is a very rough draft. I am still trying to figure out how to properly use Canva in an more advanced way. This is somewhat an idea, but if I figure out something better I will do that.

Final Feature Story #39

Great to see you again!

So, I wrote a draft of my feature story a few blog posts ago. However, I made corrections and fixed up the draft. Here is the finalized version of the feature story!

In the busy halls of his high school, in the middle of the many pupils who disappear in a sea of everyday wear, Elijah sets himself apart with a naturally bold style. Identified for his many earth tones, and statement accessories, along with a few experimental phases, Elijah has become quite a style icon among most of his peers. Strangely enough, his exploration of fashion began not with publications or brand names. It began with self-discovery instead.
Elijah wholeheartedly admits, "I started to love at fashion after I found for myself as well as who I was." To him, fashion is not just simple apparel, but a powerful means of showing who he is. Despite his fashion sense having undergone several changes across the years, he is completely content with his current clothing choices. Elijah's style, from several softer shades to many bolder styles, shows his adventure toward accepting himself.
Elijah describes his aesthetic as American High Fashion—at least according to what is at its core. As opposed to the polished, and often easily predictable nature of customary high fashion, his style branches off into a blend of trends along with truly unexpected accessories. "I like to experiment," he says. "Always add to my wardrobe." His outfits are perpetually in flux, making it difficult to pin down precisely what his style is—but that’s the point.
His talent for combining disparate items has made him famous for easily originating trends. On multiple occasions, a simple object or an eye-catching jacket has ignited a craze in the entire school. However, Elijah really insists he is not trying to be a trendsetter. He says with a shrug, "I usually wear the same style and occasionally throw in a different accessory or two—nothing crazy."
While most teenagers consult well-known social media personalities on Instagram for fashion advice, Elijah seems to get ideas from sources that are much more unusual. Music artists along with certain models such as Alex Consani, Billie Eilish, Tyler, the Creator, as well as Doechii play an important role in shaping his style. Their daring fashion sense appeals to him, motivating him to try new things with what he wears.
However, it’s not exclusively celebrities who give impetus to his creativity. Elijah gives credit to his friends from school. They are his biggest supporters. "They were the most verbally supportive of me and my fashion journey," he explains. Their firm support has allowed him to overcome challenging periods of uncertainty and confidently accept his quickly developing approach.
If there’s one thing that Elijah always has in his closet, it’s his love for neutral shades. His closet is mostly full of browns, light creams, and lush greens. Elijah confesses it may be something he absolutely shouldn't enjoy, but he is completely unable to resist. "Most, if not almost all, of my clothes are colored in earth tones… I physically cannot let them go."
His dedication to using mainly neutral colors may seem restrictive. However, it is not at all. By playing with layers in addition to textures, Elijah manages to turn basic shades into looks that are elevated as well as effortlessly cool. It’s such a reminder for us that fashion has no need to be loud to make a statement.
Elijah’s method for dealing with trends is simple: focus on the ones that matter, and ignore the others. He says, "There are certain trends that I really just find useless and don't participate in," Big companies like Gucci and Balenciaga definitely fit that description. He states frankly, "they're unnecessarily overpriced and don't look good overall" For Elijah, a few articles of clothing should focus on feelings as opposed to the brand. Many clothes should focus on how you feel instead of the specific brand.
This specific mindset has been a large benefit to him. Instead of getting swayed by countless new trends, Elijah focuses on the building of a wardrobe that reflects his personality—one that’s comfortable, confident, as well as unapologetically him.
One of Elijah’s most absolute favorite compliments is being called a "Style Icon." For him, there’s no better feeling imaginable whatsoever than when someone specifically asks where he acquired a piece of clothing or says they want to dress exactly like him. He states, "A lot of people, especially at school, have noticed how much effort I put into my clothes,"
Despite the admiration for Elijah's style, not everyone gets into it. Some people figure he’s conceited just because he dresses specially. He says, "A lot of people assumed I was mean or rude based on my demeanor and my style," For a period, these certain assessments weighed on him. However, in due course, he truly figured out how to disregard those unwanted feelings. He declares confidently, "The only opinions that matter are the ones I give weight to."
This special change in thinking is one of the biggest takeaways from Elijah’s entire style experience. He learned how to dress for himself and not for others' views. This has not only improved his self-regard but also restored his enjoyment of fashion.
Elijah’s outfits aren’t simply about trends—they’re directly from a reflection of how he’s feeling. He says, "My mood affects my style a lot, and it's very noticeable," On days when he’s feeling particularly low, his outfits tend to lean toward substantially oversized hoodies, in addition to highly comfy pants. On days he feels especially good, he favors impressive outfits and flashy jewelry. It is a kind of authentic flair that makes his clothing approachable.
When it comes to future plans, Elijah isn’t planning anything major—at least not at this moment. He’s certainly excited to continue experimenting. He’s also excited to continue constructing a wardrobe that’s fashionable and exceptionally true to himself. His straightforward advice for each person struggling to find their own personal style is simple: "Try to find articles of clothing that you like wearing. Then research styles or aesthetics that use a lot of those clothes." It might not be especially revolutionary, but it is definitely useful—as well as it has clearly worked for him.
If his adventure thus far is certainly anything to go by, Elijah’s fashion story is undoubtedly far from over. Within an era when many people appear to be dispensing sartorial guidance, his dedication toward his particular mode could represent his most meaningful strength.

That is all for today!

Layout of Magazine #38

Welcome!

Today I will be showing you how I would want to layout my magazine. I have researched how I should do my cover page, table of contents, and double page spread.

These examples each strike to find a mix between compelling, readable information and a visual appeal that is impressive, thus I want for my magazine layout a similarity to theirs. Clean columns, stressed pull quotes, and a polished flow, elements I'd love somewhat to replicate in my own spreads, make the feature piece on The Vaccines stand out with its big, attention-grabbing headline and full-page photograph. With its energetic colors, rich writing, as well as an attention-grabbing photo, Zayn's Teen Vogue cover represents perfectly the carefree, youthful spirit I want for my magazine to convey. Finally, the  ELLE table of contents page acts as a prime example of layout consistency. It also clearly shows structural clarity.

I am going to be showing you the images I will be using for the Magazine. Elijah and I had a photo shoot at different locations with different outfits to showcase his style. I still have not decided which photos would be in which part of the magazine. So, the photos are not in order, just the ones that have been chosen.

See you in the next blog!

Feature Story Draft #36

Hello, everyone!

Here is my draft for the feature story. It is still in the works; I will touch it up if I need to or feel like it could be better. So here is the draft:

Elijah is very popular at school because of what he wears. A lot of people are into his style and often ask him about his clothes. He says his style is like nice American High clothes, but not exactly. It is a little hard to explain, but it definitely works. He likes to change his style and wear different clothes sometimes, which people think is cool. He says he started to love fashion after he discovered himself, as well as that seems right.

Elijah likes trying a number of different outfits. His style is rarely ever the same. Although it is frequently different, people truly seem to appreciate it regardless. He also has a big love for earth tones, like brown and green, along with cream. Almost all of his clothes have those colors, and he says he cannot stop buying them. It is a little funny, but he at least knows what he likes.

There was a time in the past when Elijah would wear lots of things with stars. He liked wearing many star-covered items. For example, not only one item among others, but all other things. Star shirts, star headphones, star glasses—it was clearly rather overboard. But, for some strange reason, people definitely began to copy from him. Before that time, no one wore stars, so it was good that he made it loved at school. He calls that period his “Star Boy” time, and he says he will not ever forget it.

A lot of people call Elijah a “Style Icon,” and he likes that. He feels happy when people ask about his clothes or say they want to dress like him. He also loves Spirit Week at school, as he can play around with different styles along with show them off. He puts a lot of work into how he dresses, and people see it. Elijah notes that multiple music artists and models, for example Billie Eilish, Tyler, the Creator, and Doechii, give him large inspiration. He gains a fair amount of it from those people. His friends help him a lot and say that he looks nice, and this makes him feel better. It's truly good that he has several people quite nearby who greatly support him.

However, some people do not get the style of Elijah. It is not true that some think he has too much pride just because of his nice clothes. He states he once had great concern about others' views, but currently, his concern is quite reduced. He says the only ideas that really count are the certain ones he chooses to think about, which is a pretty fine way to view it. He mentions that his clothing has a big effect on his mood. Also, he says that how he dresses really changes how he feels. His clothes look a little more put together when things are going good for him. But, when his energy is low or he feels bad, he puts on clothes that feel better. He calls it "bum-like," but really, his casual clothes appear somewhat stylish.

Elijah has no current deep thoughts about his appearance now, but he tells people he is truly happy to still play around. The main piece of advice he gives to people who wish to dress in a more attractive way is to just obtain clothing that gives them pleasure and construct a Pinterest board for ideas. This is simple advice, as well as it may assist people not sure where to begin.

Elijah says he has learned to care a lot less about what other people think. He says that it has made him surer of himself. He also feels a bit less worried about his looks. That is surely a good thing to know, mostly for high school.

He’s not afraid to try new things, even if they’re kind of out there, and people seem to like that about him.

That is the draft for today!

Feature Story Interview #35

Welcome back, guys!

Here are the responses from my interviewee, Elijah Costoso. He is someone who I know who is well-informed about fashion and is truly passionate about it. We had a scheduled day for the interview; however, he had an emergency which led us to cancel the interview in person. So, we did the interview via phone call.

1. What inspired you to start loving fashion?

- "I started to love fashion after I found myself and who I was. That included finding how I liked to dress and my style. Although it has changed a lot, I’m happy with how I dress. Surprisingly, a lot of people know me for my sense of style. It can be overwhelming at times, but I think it’s one of my best qualities."

2. What is your aesthetic when it comes to fashion?

- "I like to think my style is something we call American High Fashion—at least at the base of it—because it can branch off into varying styles. I like to experiment and always add to my wardrobe, so my style is definitely ever-changing."

3. What’s your advice for someone trying to discover their personal style?

- "I would say try to find articles of clothing that you like wearing. Then, research styles or aesthetics that use a lot of those clothes. Also, just using apps such as Pinterest can really help build a vision board for how you want to dress."

4.  What is your favorite fashion era?

- "My favorite fashion era would definitely have to be the early to late 2000s. It's integrated a lot into my style today, so that would have to be my all-time favorite."

5. How do you personally decide which trends to follow and which to skip?

- "There are certain trends that I really just render useless and don't participate in. Honestly, there are rare trends that catch my eye, so I don't really follow a lot of them in my day-to-day."

6. Who do you think have had the biggest impact on today's fashion trends?

- "I would say a lot of music artists and mainly models such as Alex Consani, Billie Eilish, Tyler the Creator, and Doechii. These people create a base for a lot of outfits that myself and the people around me wear."

7. What’s the most overrated trend you’ve seen lately, and why?

- "Honestly, I think that certain big brands are overrated, like Gucci or Balenciaga. They're unnecessarily overpriced and don't look good overall. There are way better-looking and quality things that cost 10x less. It's really a peer thing and how everyone makes it seem like a 'must-have'."

8. Who was your biggest supporter when you started your fashion journey?

- "If I'm being truthful, I would say I have multiple people—mainly the people I surround myself with at school. They were the most verbally supportive of me and my fashion journey. Although it started out rocky, with their help, it raised my confidence and kept me going to where I am today."

9. What’s a guilty pleasure when it comes to fashion that you’re not afraid to admit?

- "I'd say my guilty pleasure is buying articles of clothing in the same color range. Most, if not almost all, of my clothes are colored in earth tones—brown, cream, green—those kinds of colors. I physically cannot let them go. I always gravitate towards them when shopping for clothes."

10. Did your family shape your fashion sense as a child, or did you develop your own way?

- "My family just let me find myself as I went along, helping fuel my fashion whims. Most of my influences were either my friends or certain figures, whether in modeling or in the fashion world in general."

11. How do you deal with self-doubt when it comes to your fashion choices?

- "I, as everyone does, have had self-doubts and worries stemming from comments from other people. But I grew to realize that this is how I want to dress, not them. The only opinions that matter are the ones I give weight to, and therefore only my own opinion matters."

12. What’s one thing people always misunderstand about you or your approach to fashion?

- "I've had a lot of prior comments from people saying that they thought I was mean or rude based on my demeanor and my style. A good amount of people assumed I was full of myself and conceited, which couldn't be further from the truth if I say so myself."

13. What’s one mistake you made early on that taught you a valuable lesson?

- "I would say that one mistake I've made is caring a bit too much about what people think and have to say. I've learned to be myself and dress how I want to, no matter how I am perceived. It's given me more confidence and less stress."

14.  How much does your mood influence what you wear?

-"My mood affects my style a lot, and it's very noticeable. Especially when I'm feeling upset or just at a loss for energy. My style becomes bum-like and almost pitiful. It's noticeable, unfortunately, and a definite sign something is wrong with me."

15. Do you see yourself as a trendsetter, or do you prefer to interpret existing trends in your own way?

- "I usually wear the same style and occasionally throw in a different accessory or two—nothing crazy. However, I do like to wear statement outfits at school, and it usually catches my friends' attention or that of other people. When this happens, I influence them into getting similar pieces, and it starts a trend. One time, I had a "Star Boy" aesthetic phase and wore lots of stars. Not many people wore stars beforehand until they saw how many stars I wore. I don’t mean just a plain star shirt—no, I wore star headphones, shirts, glasses, pants, etc. It was a bold era that I'll never forget."

16. What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received about your style?

- "I have gotten many compliments on my fashion. However, I think my all-time favorite is being called a "Style Icon." A lot of people, especially at school, have noticed how much effort I put into my clothes and recognize how good they look. It always makes me happy when someone is in awe of my outfits, asks where each piece is from, and says they want to dress like me."

That is it for the interview!

Practice Feature Story #33

Lovely to see you again!

So, today I will be doing my sample feature story. This is just a practice one to prepare me for the one that will be on my magazine. By doing this, I will better understand the process of a feature story and try to avoid any common mistakes or errors when writing it.

Now, here is my feature story:

Subject: Yianel Rivera

For Yianel Rivera, soccer is far more than just a game; it's a source of happiness. Yianel's love for soccer, which his parents introduced him to at an early age, is unbreakable. He claims, "The thrill I get from playing, the adrenaline, the satisfaction from winning—it’s all worth it to me,” Yianel is molded by Lionel Messi and respects the GOAT's talent to confront problems with composure and determination. He continues, "How he never gives up—that's how I want to be."
Yet Yianel's mother is the ultimate hero in his life. He is where he is today because of her unwavering guidance and encouragement. Sincere of her impact, Yianel thinks, "I am half of her." He embraced the obstacle of college-level coursework when she encouraged him to take part in the Cambridge Program. He believes, "I can do more if I can manage this."
Yianel envisions two different futures: one as a pediatrician who trains young soccer players, and the other as a family man affording an expensive yacht because of his soccer career "Being alive every day, doing what I love, and being with who I love—that's the greatest gift," he says, considering his high goals.
His twin sister has an essential part in that happiness as well. Yianel adores the connection they have and calls her his "forever best friend." Even though he faced difficulties in life, particularly in his sophomore year, he learned to grow up and go on.
Yianel tackles his concerns head-on, whether in life or on the soccer field. Like when he rode "The Hulk" at Universal Studios when he was ten years old, what began as terror became excitement. It acts as a metaphor for his brave and positive outlook on life.
Yianel Rivera is ready for whatever lies ahead—a journey filled with passion, family, and the unwavering pursuit of happiness—with aspirations as broad as the field he plays on.

That is the practice feature story!

Practice Interview #32

Nice to see you!

In this blog, I am going to say the responses that Yianel Rivera answered with.

1. What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

- "Soccer. It is the only thing that I truly enjoy doing during my free time. The thrill I get from playing, the adrenaline, the satisfaction from winning, it is all worth it to me. It is more than just a sport to me, it's my happiness. Soccer is a big thing in my culture; I was introduced to it at a young age. Forever grateful for my parents putting me in the sport when I was younger. "

2. Who is someone that you look up to?

- "I look up to my mom. She is who got me where I am today. My mom has always been my biggest supporter in everything. She has taught me everything I need to know. If it wasn't for her, I would not even be who I am today. All of me is half of her, and I cherish the half of her that is in me, if that makes sense."

3. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

- " In ten years, I can see myself in one of two scenarios. The first one would be in an expensive yacht with a family of my own and the next Messi to be, or become a pediatric doctor, with my own family, and coach soccer to children."

4.  Who is your inspiration?

- "Without a doubt, Messi. He is the Goat. He is everything I want to be. Granted I may not become the next Messi, but how he handles everything so well and he never gives up, that's how I want to be."

5. Why are you in the Cambridge Program?

- "I am in the Cambridge Program because I wanted to challenge myself and take college-level classes. I figured if I am capable of taking college-level classes, I am capable of doing more. My mom also was the one that made it known it would benefit me academically."

6. How do you look at life?

- "As a blessing. It is a blessing to be alive no matter the circumstances. Am I worried about the future? Of course, I am. But I try to not let it bug me. I am going with the flow. The fact that I am alive every day, doing the things I love, spending it with who I love, is the greatest gift anyone could ever have."

7. When was the first time you step out of your comfort zone?

- "When I was ten, I rode a rollercoaster for the first time. I believe it was 'The Hulk' at Universal Studios? Yea, it was. And I was so scared to ride it, but my sister kept calling me a wimp and decided to prove her wrong. I ended up loving it, it is my favorite ride."

8. Who is someone you never want to forget?

- "My twin sister. She is my other half. She has literally been with me since the womb. She is my forever best friend."

9. How do you handle criticism?

- " Eh... decent, I guess. Like, if I get criticized by my friends or family, I know it is for the better and they are trying to help me. On the other hand, if it is from someone I hardly know, I don't really care what they have to say really."

10. When do you believe you grew out of your childhood mentality?

- " I would say sophomore year of high school. Like, I have matured over the years, but reality struck during tenth grade, and I have grown from that. I don't want to get into it since it was a lot of personal stuff that had happened, but I reflected a lot from that era and there was a lot of childhood mentality that I just had to get over and grow up. But hey, I have changed for the better and grateful that sophomore year taught me things that I needed to learn."

That would be all for today!
